Resumen

We propose an alternative route using vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET) to optimize travel times. In this research, we explore the information available in a VANET environment to improve traffic flow. We performed an exhaustive search and filtering of multiple literature sources. In the field of vehicular communication, there are numerous real-world applications. However, for our experiments, we used ONMET++ and the urban mobility simulator (SUMO) to simulate a scenario with 500 vehicles from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador Esmeraldas (PUCESE) to the Multiplaza shopping mall. Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are a special type of mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) in which vehicles communicate with each other or with surrounding infrastructure units using standard protocols. As a result of the simulation, we obtained a large amount of data (Big Data) with 65,509 records. Key data for analysis include vehicle ID, coordinates, speed, and displacement. Using this information, we analyze the performance of a particular vehicle and calculate the time required to reach one of the points mentioned in the previous section.
