Resumen
This article presents a qualitative study of teaching work in general at elementary schools, along with a specific view of teaching mathematics, Spanish, and natural science. An interdisciplinary team observed the classes of fifteen teachers for one week in Mexico City and in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico. Their observation and analysis consider referents from teaching specific disciplines and a sociocultural focus. The article presents a panorama of teachers' work, emphasizing their strengths and weaknesses in teaching specific subjects, as well as institutional factors that influence the process. We believe that the study's findings will be useful in designing programs for ongoing training and evaluation.
