Resumen
This article presents results from the Journalism Culture of Ecuador Project related to self-perception analysis of the professional role of Ecuadorian journalists. The research was based on 31 in-depth interviews with journalists from 6 national communications media and an analysis of journalistic culture in the country. The project began with the theoretical assumptions of Hanitzsch (2007) who proposes three dimensions for analysis (interventionism, the distance of power and market orientation) to study the idea of the journalists? professional role. Results show that respondents identify with the professional role of diffuser, maintain a distant but cordial attitude with their sources and see their public as citizens.
