N2 - Purpose: a) To analyze the studies on internationalization in Ecuadorian higher education and b) To determine the coincidences around the characterization, typology, causes and recommendations on internationalization in Ecuadorian higher education. Methodology: Documentary approach. The analysis of texts is used as a technique for the identification of the enunciations and composition of the discourse. Procedures: selection of the documentary body according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Analysis and systematization. Organization in hermeneutical units. Drafting of the research report. Results: internationalization is an old process that was born with the universities themselves, but at the same time it is weak because it does not have an institutional, national and regional strategy that supports them. Ecuador has a strong outgoing mobility of students and an important incorporation of foreign professionals; but from countries going through economic crises. Conclusions: Studies are recent and no further comparison or analysis is possible.
