Resumen

The objective of this research is to identify if the products, processes, organizational and marketing practices introduced or applied are innovations. Companies from four sectors were analyzed; through content analysis, firms were classified into four groups according to their answers to the questions about whether they innovated and what type of innovation was introduced: 1) Companies that reported innovations and actually did; 2) companies that reported innovations but really did not; 3) companies that reported no innovations and actually did not; and 4)companies that reported no innovations but really did. The results show that organizational innovation is the least consolidated, as only half of the companies that initially responded to innovate in this area, theyreally did. In addition, the segment of small businesses has the lowest error rate; approximately six in 10 firms reported that they innovated. Finally, the mining and quarrying companies have the greatest difficulty in identifying their new processes or organizational practices as truly an innovation.
