Resumen

Cenotes, the natural sinkholes of Quintana Roo, represent highly sensitive karstic aquatic ecosystems under increasing threat from anthropogenic activities such as urbanisation, tourism, and agriculture. The effective management of environmental pollutant data collected from these ecosystems is crucial for scientific research, regulatory decision-making, and ecosystem conservation. This paper presents the design and development of the Environmental Information System (EIS) called Jool Ha’, a domain-specific web-based information system aimed at centralising and managing pollutant data associated with cenotes in Quintana Roo. Implemented using a Model-View-Controller (MVC) software architecture, the platform combines a structured relational database with an accessible user interface tailored to the needs of environmental researchers. It supports data entry from manual sampling as well as future integration with Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) to enable real-time monitoring capabilities. Functional features include user registration with role-based access control, dynamic data visualisation, interactive querying, and project tracking. This work contributes an extensible and adaptable digital infrastructure for environmental data management and sets the foundation for a broader information ecosystem supporting multidisciplinary research, policy frameworks, and community-based monitoring efforts.
