Descripción del Proyecto

This project generated by Oralidad Modernidad (OM), fulfilled the purpose of designing sociolinguistic georeferenced studies to determine the vitality of minoritized languages; this is, the loss and recovery strategies characterizing language displacement. Between 2010 and 2017, our main focus was the twelve Ecuadorian Indigenous languages and the Kichwa varieties through the country. Along with trained teams composed by indigenous speakers, national and international researchers and students; and our on-site teams, we were able to work with around 770 indigenous communities and 6.700 indigenous interviewees. Although much of the data continues to be analyzed, linguistic vitality for all the sites of the study, has already been cartographically represented to favor the speakers and their communities that look forward to safeguarding their language; and for the proper development of linguistic and educational policies and practices. Currently, we have served as external advisers for similar projects at the national and international levels.
