Abstract

This paper proposes a critical approach to the concept of femicide from its origin to the different versions developed by its proponent, Diana Russell. I take an analytical approach - in the philosophical sense - to the concept, to understand its intensional and denotative qualities. I also analyse the alternative definition of feminicidio. The idea of femicide as a kind of hate crime is refuted. The papers finishes with an analysis of the difficulties for a legal instrumentalization of this concept as it has been proposed.
