Abstract

The purpose of this research was to understand the personality traits that affect the performance of university professors in teaching and research functions. Two hundred and twenty-one professors participated in the research; the personality test 16 PF-5 was administered in order to obtain information on factors and personality traits. Teaching performance was measured through their results in the process of evaluation of teaching performance in the classroom, and research performance through data on their participation in research projects and information about their scientific publications. Regarding the performance as teachers, the results indicate that there is no influence of personality traits or factors. On the contrary, the results show a significant relationship (p < 0.05) between their performance as researchers and the traits AFFABILITY (p = 0.001) and ABSTRACTION (p = 0.001), as well as in the SELF-CONTROL factor (p = 0.038).
