Abstract
The process of cutting cardboard folds in the printing company of Cienfuegos, Cuba has been carried out, for many years, from the empirical knowledge and the experience of the technicians who execute this task. It consists of a complex process since different amounts of rectangular pieces of different dimensions must be obtained from rectangular cardboard folds of standard sizes. Therefore, it is unintentionally incurred in waste or leftovers that have no use. These processes can be approached from the mathematical point of view, significantly influencing the organization and control of them with the optimization of waste. The present work includes this mathematical modeling, its main difficulties and the use from a computer assistant created for such purposes. The interested party, upon consulting it, will be able to find information concerning theoretical aspects related to cutting problems of materials in two dimensions, solution methods and practical results obtained in the polygraphic company of Cienfuegos, Cuba.
