IP to Satellite Adaptation Level for a Bent Pipe Network Using DVB-S2/RCS2 Standards

Abstract

The DVB-S2/RCS2 standards for satellite transmission enable the configuration of data network architectures for the transport of IP traffic, catering to both applications that require Quality-of-Service (QoS) guarantees and those that do not, such as best-effort traffic. The standard provides certain guidelines for implementation, thus necessitating the presentation of a proposal for the adaptation level of the IP protocol to satellite signaling and the frame structure of the DVB-S2 standard. This work presents the development of an adaptation level to differentiate the traffic of IP applications based on their quality guarantee requirements and how this translates into the allocation of time slots in the satellite superframe. Finally, simulation results are presented for the satellite resource allocation for QoS traffic.
