Abstract
This study identifies risk factors for domestic violence in Ecuador. Following the theoretical framework proposed by Heise (1998, 2012), we use a logistic regression model exploiting data from the Second National Survey on Family Relations and Gender Violence of 2019, including women 15 years old or older who have had a partner. At community and social levels, it is key to promote women’s empowerment and to eradicate poverty, while at individual level, preventive strategies must target young, poor, indigenous women, as well as on those in long-term relationships.
