Abstract

The number of days of hospitalization reported in the Statistical Registry of Hospital Beds and Discharges, 2018, in Ecuador, is studied, based on the explanatory variables Province of location of the hospital center, Sex of the patient, Age, Ethnicity, Province of habitual residence of the patient and Specific cause. For this, a geometric regression model is used, with which it is possible to conclude that all the variables mentioned, except Ethnicity, are relevant to explain the number of days of hospitalization required. The model is expected to serve the hospital manager to plan the valuable resource ‘hospital bed’, considering the explanatory variables mentioned at the time of the patient’s admission.
