Abstract
The objective of this article is to analyze the migration patterns, risks and vulnerabilities of Ecuadorian people who migrate irregularly to the United States within a border externalization context. With a qualitative methodology, based on 44 in-depth interviews with people who immigrated between 1995 and 2023, we identify typologies that show the changes over three periods. The period after 2021 stands out, as the restrictive policies implemented by countries of transit modified the migration patterns. Therefore, Ecuadorians were forced to embark on journeys known for their bigger risks and vulnerability.
