Abstract
At present, the elements that constitute the image of the Venezuelan cities are deteriorated and disarticulated, resulting in a negative perception of order, formal unity and legibility. In this work, a methodology for the study of the city based on its physical-spatial aspect is presented. It starts with the study of the city from the perception of its formal configuration, based on the Gestalt theoretical approach and ends with the qualitative variable determination of the urban form components. In this sense, the method allows us to analyze the perceptive qualities, starting from the elements of the urban morphology, such as the grid, the block, the street, street intersections, open spaces and the architectonic elements, with the purpose of offering qualitative measuring parameters in the search of the urban image unity and cohesion, in the light of composition and design.
