Research Interests

Jaime David Acosta España (JDAE) holds a degree in medicine from the Central University of Ecuador (2014) and earned his master's in medical microbiology at the Federal University of Ceará in Brazil (2017), supported by an Organisation of American States scholarship. Subsequently, he attained master's degrees in infectious diseases (2020) and human immunodeficiency viruses (2021) in Spain.

Acosta holds a teaching certification in medical education from Harvard University (2022). His professional trajectory includes roles at the Ecuadorian Ministry of Health (2018-2020), where he specialized in infection control and medical microbiology at tertiary and second-level hospitals. He served as the head of microbiology at Vozandes Quito Hospital from 2020 to 2022. He contributed to the Emergency Response Committee for COVID-19 in Ecuador.

As an educator, Acosta taught medical microbiology (2019-2022), immunology (2019-2022), and tropical medicine (2020-2022) at the University of the Americas in Ecuador. In 2020.

His accomplishments include a research award from the National Institute for Research and Public Health (INSPI). In 2023, Acosta assumed the role of research associate at the University of Jena, Germany, collaborating with the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology e. V. Hans Knoell Institute. He serves as a professor in the postgraduate program in infectious diseases at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador and as a professor of medical microbiology and infectious diseases at Universidad Internacional SEK, Ecuador.

Currently, Acosta is pursuing a Ph.D. in microbiology and Infection Biology at the University of Jena, Germany.
