SIMIL is an interdisciplinary academic group oriented to the critical study of the links between language, culture and memory from diverse analytical perspectives. Its lines of research include orality, discourse analysis, linguistics and literature, ecocriticism, gender studies, archival studies, Latin American literature, cultural studies, literacy, literary theories and digital writing. The group seeks to promote spaces for reflection and research production to understand the symbolic, social and political dynamics that cross literary and cultural discourses in Ecuador and Latin America.
Among its objectives are the following: to promote research that articulates theory and practice in the study of discourses; to promote dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity in writing; and to strengthen research training at the undergraduate and graduate levels at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador (PUCE). In sum, SIMIL's research activities aim to contribute to the construction of a situated and pertinent knowledge for the Ecuadorian and Latin American context.
