Creative Practices and Artistic Languages for Intercultural Education

For a long time, the languages of the arts were relegated from the curriculum of Intercultural Bilingual Education, which privileged literacy processes of teaching and learning, believing that these languages could not be producers or vehicles of knowledge. The recent inclusion of these languages in the subject of Artistic and Cultural Education, far from reconsidering their status, continues to reproduce in different ways a hierarchization of languages that prevents a true dialogue of knowledge that sustains a truly intercultural practice in educational, school, community, and family spaces. The objective that unites the research group "The Languages of the Arts for Intercultural Education" has three elements: first, we propose to investigate the epistemological and sociocultural particularities of learning, teaching, and the use of the languages of the arts in the peoples and nationalities of Ecuador from an ethnographic perspective; second, we want to design and implement an alternative pedagogical proposal that includes in the curriculum of Intercultural Education (not only of the peoples and nationalities but of the entire society) the languages of the arts, with all their complexity to deepen the knowledge of an intercultural society in a plurinational state and all its potential to develop new relationships between humans and society and nature; and third, we seek to link the research and pedagogical construction process from a community perspective to directly and effectively influence local, regional, and national development processes.
