Tiny Spondylus beads found in Ibarra's garbage dumps dating back to 500 BC, figurines from the Ecuadorian coast and their meaning in a sex-generic key, remains of food and handicrafts made in Ayangue in shells three thousand years ago, obsidian artifacts associated with the oldest house in Quito, evidence of high-altitude sites on the Chimborazo volcano, and a giant chicha container used in funeral rites 1,000 years ago are just some of the topics addressed in the Archaeology Laboratory.
Its doors are open to anyone interested in how our ancestors lived and the relevance of learning about their lives today. Archaeology students are active participants in the lab, where they collaborate in the analysis of artifacts recovered from various investigations, in which most of their degree projects are also framed. They are always welcome to visit the lab to learn more about archaeology and it would be a pleasure to give a talk at their school or institution!
