Organization profile

The objective of the Health Impact Assessment (HIA) is to improve knowledge about the effect of policies, programs or projects on the health of populations, inform policy makers and affected populations, and facilitate changes in evaluated policies to mitigate negative effects and maximize positive impacts. The EIS group is made up of an interdisciplinary team from the areas of epidemiology, public health, medicine, biology and economics that will use quantitative evidence based on a model that includes the economic, political, social, biological and environmental determinants of health. The group is set to work in an integrated manner with other programs to evaluate and model more effective interventions in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda. Despite recent improvements in data availability and mathematical and quasi-experimental modelling methods, quantitative HIA is still underutilised for evidence-based policymaking. With this background, the general objective of the group is to develop research and knowledge management projects that evaluate the impact of policies, programs or interventions on the health of populations, in accordance with the agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals.
