Dimensions of Ecuadorian Thought

Organization profile

The review of the literature circulating in Ecuador reveals two preliminary problems, the “lack of knowledge of our own” (Roig, 1982: 17) and the scarce dissemination of the research and achievements of Ecuadorian authors. In relation to the first problem, it is a “lack of knowledge”, which is not related to “knowledge” in terms of knowledge, but in terms of valuation of what we are; on the other hand, the second problem, which derives from the previous one, points to the scarce diffusion of what has been published on our national production. A change of intellectual attitude about what we are, in a word, about our national identity, is required.
Specifically, the problem to be addressed is the lack of research on Ecuadorian authors in the various fields of human and natural sciences and the arts, who have passed on their legacy through enduring works, whose vast content requires an academic effort of compilation, arrangement, classification, analysis, interpretation and systematization.
Through this process, we intend to systematize the academic, scientific or artistic production of the selected authors, through the rigorous application of the historical-critical method, which highlights, in a balanced and synthetic way, the richness and breadth of their contributions.
