Community and Primary Care Research Group - Ecuador

Organization profile

Organization profile

The Research Group "Community and Primary Care Research Group Ecuador (CPCRG-E)" will develop intensive research activity and will have a solid track record in healthcare services research. The community and primary care context becomes a privileged setting to develop epidemiological and clinical studies that follow specific population groups; additionally, it enables research on the most prevalent pathologies, especially in early stages of disease, and in relation to the family and community context. The limited research infrastructure in primary care, the lack of support from the main public research organizations, and the limited awareness for its promotion make it necessary to strengthen research and innovation in this field. Our research will be carried out with the participation of professionals and the population, who decisively contribute to developing specific research questions and designing projects. We will use various research methods (qualitative and quantitative) to address frequent and often complex problems of healthcare in the community, at the primary level and at other levels where primary healthcare must guarantee people comprehensive quality care—from promotion and prevention to treatment, rehabilitation, and palliative care—as close as possible to their usual places. Our research interests may be directed, but not limited, to the most excluded or vulnerable people, with various problems and difficulties accessing health services.
